General Grand Council Presents T.S. Akers: December 12, 2021 at 12pm MDT (GMT-6)

The General Grand Council will be presenting an educational presentation on December 12, 2021, at 12pm MDT (GMT-6). T.S. Akers will be presenting a presentation entitled “Mount Moriah: McAlester’s Lost Masonic Temple”. The mountains and woods of southeastern Oklahoma have hidden many things throughout history, but none so grand as Mount Moriah Masonic Temple. Located north of McAlester, the temple was a site of pilgrimage for local Masons and was a place for many important gatherings and ceremonies. In this lecture, T.S. Akers chronicles the planning, building, and life of Mount Moriah as a Masonic temple, and describes its reclamation by the dense forests of southeastern Oklahoma.
T.S. Akers, a citizen of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, is a Past Master of Guildhall Lodge No. 553 AF&AM. In addition to being the Curator of Collections for the McAlester Scottish Rite Valley, he also serves on the board of directors for the Friends of Honey Springs Battlefield and the Oklahoma Grand Lodge Museum and Library. Akers is the only living Past Grand Captain General of Knights Templar of Oklahoma and resides in Oklahoma City, where he enjoys wearing loud socks.
