Most Puissant Companion Monty Glover
General Grand Master
The General Grand Master’s Next Fire-Side Chat will be Sunday, September 25, 2022, at 3pm Mountain Time. The speaker will be Illustrious Companion Ben Williams and the topic will be a Synopsis of William Morgan. See below for the registration link.
On Sept. 11, 1826, William Morgan, of Batavia, New York, was forcibly removed from the jailhouse at Canandaigua, New York, to a two-horse carriage and borne away into the mists of time. His disappearance was suspected to have been carried out by overzealous Freemasons enforcing the penalties of their obligations…. His suspected murder enraged the anti-Masonic movement in New England and ushered forth the Anti-Masonic Party, the only political third-party to rise to prominence in the United States.
In this talk, drawing of prime sources (including the proceedings of the Anti-Masonic Convention in 1830 convened especially to review the court records in Morgan’s case), Bro. Ben dives into the history of the man, the alleged crimes, and proposes three potential outcomes explaining Morgan’s disappearance… including murder.
The Fire-Side Chats have gone well, and everyone had a great time.
A simple and powerful idea – we come together as Cryptic Masons once each month, learn something, and discuss anything that is reasonable for the venue. The format will be open, and it will give you an opportunity to ask questions of me, on pretty much any topic, and share in fellowship with your Companions around the World; it is a chance to, as we say in Hawaii, talk story.
