Passing of MI Don Himes, PMIGM of Michigan

Past Grand Master of the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masons of Michigan

Most Illustrious Companion Donald Lee Himes, Past Grand Master of the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masons of Michigan, passed away August 31, 2019. He is survived by his wife Ramona, children Kimberly and Daniel (Gail), and many loving nieces and nephews. He was born May 29, 1929. He was employed by Greyhound Bus Service for 40 years, and 18 years working at Stoney Creek Metro Park.

On Thursday September 5, 2019 at Wujek Calcaterra & Sons Funeral Home (54880 Van Dyke Avenue (at 25 Mile Road), Shelby Township, MI 48316). A funeral service will be conducted at 6pm followed by a Masonic Service conducted by Composite Lodge No. 499, F.&A.M. at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to the Cryptic Masons Medical Research Foundation. Memories can also be shared at the online guestbook located here. The Most Illustrious Grand Master of Michigan, Gene E. Newman has issued an order that the charter of every constituent council of Michigan be draped for sixty days in tribute to this beloeved companion.

Brother Hines served as Master of Composite Lodge No. 499 in 1979 and Secretary from 1981 to 1994. He was the Most Illustrious Grand Master of of the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masons in Michigan in 1997 and served as Grand Recorder from 1998 to 2009 and was honored as Grand Recorder Emeritus.

In the York Rite College, he received the Order of the Purple Cross in 1987 and was the Deputy Grand Govenor from 1992 to 1998. Companion Himes served as Prior of Michigan Priory No. 22, KYCH.

In the Scottish Rite Valley of Detroit, he was the Thrice Potent Master of Carson\’s Council Princes of Jerusalem in 1995 and was coronated with the 33rd Degree.
