Lowell was born in Minneapolis, Minn., he was the oldest of three children born to George and Alice Amundson. Soon after the family moved to Hood River, Ore. At the age of 6 he lost his father in a logging accident. Leading them to move to Meadowglade, Wash., to be close to family. He attended Columbia Adventist Academy. After graduation he attended Walla Walla University until WWII broke out and enlisted in the Navy. He was a proud WWII Veteran. While on leave he married his sweetheart Katherine Jensen May 10, 1942. After serving in the Navy he came home to his wife and two children. He then became a Portland Police Officer and proudly served for 25 years. He was a grandfather to nine grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Lowell and Kathie enjoyed traveling with friends and attending meetings as an active member of the Masons, the Shriners, and Sons of Norway. He also grew a large garden for family canning, and raised cattle and chickens. He enjoyed hunting with his son and grandsons, and fishing with his daughter. He was happily married for 78 years and was preceded in death by his wife; and brothers, Leroy and Donald Amundson.
