Passing of MIC Pete Peters, 1929-2023

Please send your prayers of condolences and comfort to the friends and family of our beloved Worshipful Brother Urban \’Pete\’ Peters, who laid down his working tools and was raised to the Celestial Lodge on Sunday morning March 12, 2023. He passed away peacefully in his sleep. Brother Peters was 93 years old and spent 47 years in the Craft.

Brother Peters served as Worshipful Master of Patuxent Lodge No. 218 in 1985, 1996, 2006, 2007 and 2008. His nephew, who is a Past Master, highlighted how his uncle loved and cherished Patuxent Lodge.

PERSONAL

Urban Tilden Peters was born in Martin, Kentucky on September 22, 1929. He is the son of the late Colonel Robert and Bertha Ellis Peters. He was raised on a small farm in the coal mining region of Eastern Kentucky. He graduated with honors from Martin high School in 1948. He attended Berea College for two years prior to enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1951. He was married to Mary Magdalene Branham on December 31, 1953. Urban was discharged from the Air Force in January of 1955. The couple completed their undergraduate education at the University of Maryland. They completed their graduate work in education at the George Washington University. After serving thirty-six years in the Prince George’s County, Maryland Public Schools system the couple retired in 1989. Mary passed away on October 14, 2006 with congestive heart failure.

Served as Chaplain, Secretary, Treasurer, and President of the 218 Temple Holding Corporation.
Served as Worshipful Master in 1985, 1996, 2006, 2007, 2008.
Appointed Grand Inspector of The Grand Lodge of Maryland, 1991-1993.
1995 was Worshipful Master of St. John’s Lodge No. 11, D.C.
1998 was Worshipful Master of Pythagoras Lodge of Research, D.C.

SCOTTISH RITE

Joined A.A.S R, Valley of Washington, Orient of the District of Columbia in 1982. Endowed Life Member. He was very active in the ritual work in the Valley. Named an Emeritus Chairman of Visitation Committee after serving in that capacity for ten years. Served as Commander of Council of Kadosh, 1992. Worked ten years as a tour guide at the Supreme Council’s “House of The Temple”, headquarters, library and museum of the A.A.S.R, S.J.
Invested a KCCH, 1991. Coroneted S.G.I.G., 33rd Degree Honorary, 1995.

SHRINERS

Joined Almas Shrine Temple in Washington, D.C. in 1982. Served as chairman of Sick and Shut-In Committee for several years, was Commander of the Legion of Honor, 1996 & 97. Has portrayed George Washington since 1990, appointed the official George Washington for the Temple in 2003. Serves on the Sheppard’s Club drivers team to transport children to the Shriner Hospital.
