Sheldon Lee Edwards, Sr., age 88 of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 15, 2022. He was born on January 23, 1934 in Old Forge, Pennsylvania, son of the late Thomas Edwards and Alvretta Carey Edwards. He spent his early years in Old Forge, PA, before moving to the Wilmington, Delaware area. He attended Old Forge Elementary School, Oak Grove Elementary School, Krebs School, and Conrad High School. He worked for Chrysler over 35 years as an electrician. Shel was a 33rd degree Mason and a member of Naomi and Ruth Chapters of Eastern Star. He served as Most Illustrious Grand Master in 1999. He loved to travel and take cruises. In addition to his parents, Shel was preceded in death by his wives Geraldine Edwards and Nancy Edwards, his brothers, Forrest and Thomas Edwards, his beloved sister Alvretta Crozier and his grandson Dylan Deaton. He is survived by his children, Jeffrey Edwards (Cathy), Dianna Deaton (Scott) and Lee Edwards (Gladys) and his grandchildren, Jeffrey Edwards, Meagan Deaton, and Dustin Edwards. He is also survived by his dear friend, Marie Walker. Family and friends are welcome for visitation on Monday, June 20, 2022 from 10-10:45 am at Richardson Park United Methodist Church, 11 N Maryland Ave, Wilmington, DE 19804, followed by an O.E.S. and Mason Masonic services that will begin at 10:45 am and followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Shel’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
