Walk through the Door

Life is an unfoldment, and the further we travel the more truth we can comprehend. To understand the things that are at our door is the best preparation for understanding those that lie beyond.– Hypatia

My Companion:

You were first prepared to be a Mason in your heart. You then knocked upon the door of the Lodge: “Ask and ye shall receive, seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you”. As you completed the Circle of Perfection, you again walked through a door. You didn’t ask where the door was. You didn’t seek the door. You didn’t knock. The door was there, open and inviting.

As you advanced in Masonry’s mysteries, you passed through the veils of allegory and learned from the symbols displayed to you in every Degree. Every time you walked through a door, something new was shared with you. Those who had entered before you taught you what those before them had shared with them. Each lesson built on those that had preceded it. But this is merely the foundation on which you must build your Masonic Temple.

Every Companion has the duty to ask, to seek, to open the door to more knowledge. Some of it will come from the Companions of your Council: the basics of Masonic courtesy, the ritual of opening and closing a Council, recognizing the symbols used in a Council. Some of it will come from reading the works of Companions who have already delved deep the quarries: recent scholars, casual students, and time-honored writers. But you must also apply yourself to these studies. You must walk through the open and inviting door.

Masonic Light and Knowledge is what you will find as you walk through that door. It is there, if you hear. It is there, if you see. It is there, if you feel.
